Qualico Communities – Ravenswood

Date: 08/2015 Category:

A plaza for the community of Ravenswood in Airdrie, containing a stainless steel screen with RGB lights, concrete walls and benches.

The screen, built with perforated stainless steel layers, sits 30’ long and 10’ tall. The design is intended to evoke the feeling of a raven’s flight. To help this idea, birds were layered at different depths along with vertical steel posts to give the idea of flight through a forest. The remainder of the plaza is surrounded by concrete walls that were cast on site and IPE wood topped benches. This is another example of Heavy’s turnkey approach, where the job was taken from conception all the way through to the installation phase.
